Invirtus Simplifies Physical to Virtual Migrations for Kingfisher International

Fiber Optic Testing Equipment Manufacturer Overcomes Size Challenges with VM Optimizer

Atlanta, GA – September 7, 2006 – Invirtus, the leading provider of solutions that optimize and improve management and distribution of virtual machine technology, announced today that Kingfisher International has experienced significant image size reductions and improved server performance since its recent deployment of VM Optimizer™. Kingfisher credits VM Optimizer for helping simplify its migration to a virtual server environment.

“In July of this year we were in the process of moving our production servers to a virtual server environment when we discovered that the image sizes were much larger than expected,” said Bruce Robertson, Technical Director for Kingfisher International. “In the past we had found optimization tools to be helpful so we elected to put VM Optimizer to the test. “

VM Optimizer is a Windows®-based application that runs inside of a Virtual Machine and optimizes virtual machines running all versions of VMware® Workstation™, VMware Server™, VMware ACE™, VMware GSX Server™, VMware ESX Server™, Microsoft® Virtual PC™, and Microsoft Virtual Server™.

“The test results were very impressive,” explained Robertson. “VM Optimizer not only solved our problem – making significant reductions in our image sizes – but also provided a much greater improvement in server performance than we expected.”

VM Optimizer customers report reductions of as much as 80% in the size of their virtual machines. This significantly smaller footprint simplifies file sharing, archival, backup and image transfer. In addition it streamlines IT disaster recovery and server consolidation scenarios.

“We can now easily perform backups, our server speed has increased and the image sizes have decreased enormously,” continued Robertson.

“Widespread adoption of virtual machine technology continues to be dependent on the ease of manipulation and manageability of the VMs,” explained Tom Edwards, Founder and CEO of Invirtus, Inc. “Kingfisher’s experience mirrors the stories we hear from VM users around the world who are excited about the potential of working with virtual machines but frustrated by their size and performance.”

“With VM Optimizer we have been able to help resolve our customer’s frustrations by giving them what they really want – a significant enough reduction in the size of their VMs to make them truly portable and convenient, yet maintain reliability,” concluded Edwards.
